Inspired by his brother's martial arts skills, Aaron started learning various Chinese martial arts 16 years ago from the best practitioners Kansas City has to offer. A few years into his practice he saw a Chen Tai Chi masters demonstration on an old VHS tape, and was immediately impressed with the beauty of the Chen Tai Chi system. Unable to find a teacher, he continued to study other styles until the summer of 2009, when a friend alerted him to an authentic Tai Chi school in Kansas City. For the past 8 years he's focused on learning authentic Chen Style Tai Chi from Chen Huixian's Chenjiagou Taijiquan Academy.
Introduction to Chen Style Tai Chi and the 18-Movement Form
This series of ten, 90-minute classes will introduce the student to the fundamentals of Chen Style Tai Chi, and instruct the student in the proper execution of the 18-Movement Form. Included in the course: standard warm up routine; basic stance and posture training; essential body mechanics and movements; the entire 18-Movement Form especially designed for beginners; applications for self-defense. Detailed explanations and demonstrations of all aspects of the teaching will be provided.
Tai Chi is an ancient martial art originally developed by the Chen family of Henan Province, China. While it has come to be known as a slow, soft and gentle series of movements, it is in reality a vigorous and energetic martial art that allows for the development of exceptional power, flexibility, health and beauty. Tai Chi is also found to be very effective for use in self defense.
This class will meet from 10:30am to 12:00pm on the following Saturdays: March 18 and 25; April 1, 8, 15, and 22; May 6, 13, 20, and 27. (Note that there will be no class on Saturday, April 29.)
