Diwali Celebration (field trip)

Field trip to celebrate the Diwali - Festival of Lights at the Hindu Temple in KC.

Come celebrate the festival of Diwali with us at the Hindu temple in KC on Sunday, November 6th.  We will take a guided tour of the temple and learn about various deities that will be decorated for the occasion. You will guided about the various Indian foods that will be for sale at the food stalls (cash only please).  The trip will end with a magnificent outdoor fire work display, as we celebrated the return of Ram, Sita, and Laxman after 14 years of exile, that also represents the victory of right over wrong. Traditionally people in India will light diyas (lamps all over their homes and streets, perform poojas, enjoy prasad (offerings), a meal and light fireworks. Participants are welcome to bring small offerings (fruits/ flowers are usually good - just a tiny amount).

You are requested to sign up so that the trip details can be shared in advance and to avoid missing the group in the large crowd for this popular festival.

Meet at Geeta's house in Lawrence (2400 Ohio) at 4:45pm. Or you can meet us at the temple: 6330 Lackman Rd, Shawnee Mission, KS 66217

Suggested donation $5 - $10 for guided tour with Geeta Tiwari.
